New-Old-Stock 3T Roller Guide Stem...Chromoly Steel Tubing w/Black Enamel Finish (Shopwear) Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This item for sale is a new-old-stock 3T roller guide chromoly steel mountain bike stem that measures 135 mm (from side profile reference points that make a straight line from the center of the bar clamp opening to the center of the quill). Additionally, this model has the built-in cable stop and a brass roller guide that is secured (tig welded) to the underside of the stem body. We've been told this was one of the more sensible approaches to "guiding" a cable from the brake lever to the front brake when using upright mountain/hybrid bike style bars (although, we have also been told this design was more expensive to manufacture, which may explain why the design has since been abandoned). Still, there appears to be merit to this design, because it reduces the friction that occurs when engaging the front brake. There is less cable housing, because of the cable stop built into the underside of the stem body, and the brass roller facilitates cable movement, while also acting as an effective mechanism to re-route the cable 90 degrees south (from the brake lever to the brake caliper). We also have to believe these stems are near "bullet-proof", as they have been manufactured with nearly 1 lb. of chromoly steel tubing...so a little on the heavy side, but we would guess this translates into a durable stem under most conditions. In addition to these observations, we just don't see these stems anywhere, except for the occasional second-hand offering...and these are new-old-stock from a trusted brand. With respect to compatibility, the quill diameter is 22.2 mm, which should fit any 1" or 25.4 mm threaded fork steerer tube and the bar clamp size is 25.4 mm (which we believe to be a relatively common size for mountain/hybrid bikes). All of our 3T offerings are in new and unused condition (unless otherwise noted) and this particular stem was bulk packed (and there is some shopwear worth noting as a result of the manner in which these stems were bulk packed). On all the stems we have inspected, the black enamel has chipped away in places (and in particular on the top side of the stem body...near where this tubing joins the top of the quill). To the best of our knowledge and based on our observations as to how these stems were bulk packed, we have noted this area of the stem body has come into contact with the roller guide/cable stop mechanism of the stem that was packed on top of it (or next to it)...and the shifting within the box has caused some chipping of the paint as these two areas have rubbed against each other over the years. There are other scuffs/scratches in the black enamel of these stems, but this one particular area is generally where we see the most shopwear. Listing Update...Please also note that while we have multiple quantities listed for sale, we will repeatedly update the pictures to represent the next offering that will sell. So just to confirm, the pictures presented within this listing represent the next stem we have pulled from inventory to sell/ship. Having spent so much time discussing the cosmetic condition of these stems, we do want to assure everyone that functionally they appear fine. We do not see any evidence where these stems have been mounted on a bike and each offering includes all the required hardware with no rust or corrosion noted...except maybe a little surface rust on some of the wedge bolts (that would clean-up easily should someone wanted to take the time to do so). Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
